Dear Colleagues,
it is a great pleasure to cordially welcome you to the

The SBHD conference series is a binational annual event initially launched by Peter Sorger and colleagues at Harvard Medical School in 2008 with its location alternating Harvard and Heidelberg. Since then SBHD has expanded its reach. In 2018, the SBHD took place in Los Angeles organized by Alexander Hoffmann.
With Roland Eils recent move to Berlin, SBHD 2019 conference will take place in the sparkling German capital Berlin hosted by Charité Universitaetsmedizin Berlin and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) for the first time. The conference has a focus on systems biology approaches for the understanding, diagnosis, and therapy of human diseases.

We are pleased that 17 high-caliber national and international speakers have already confirmed their attendance. We assembled an exciting program with a particular focus on multiscale approaches from single cell to whole organisms, and on integration of large-scale machine learning based models with fine-grained mechanistic models. Further topics are systems biology for clinical insights, and immunological systems dynamics. In addition to talks given by invited speakers, the SBHD has had a good tradition of including short and lightning talks, as well as extended poster sessions selected from submitted abstracts.
During Wednesday’s morning session, we are proud to, once again, award the Anne Heidenthal Prize for Fluorescence Research sponsored by Chroma Technology Corp.
In the evening of the second conference day, we will have our traditional conference dinner on a boat cruising through Berlin. As we pass exciting Berlin monuments along the riverbank, we will enjoy good drinks and food while listening, and dancing to great music. The evening is a perfect opportunity for social networking between the participants. Like in the years before we expect a great party.
Thus, on behalf of the organizing committee, a warm welcome to all participants planning to attend SBHD 2019 here in Berlin
